Local authority Mufti Gulamullah stated that two cables of the cable car broke and 8 passengers were trapped at a height of several meters around 08:00 local time.

THE ARMY IS INVOLVED

The Army sent a military helicopter to the region yesterday for the rescue operation, but the operation was carried out in very difficult conditions due to weather conditions.

The children were tied to the ropes and lowered from the cable car one by one and lowered to the ground.

The Pakistanis watched the rescue operation, which was described as “very difficult and dangerous”, on television holding their breath. Some of the children were reported to have fainted on the cable car due to fear and heat.

Gulamullah stated that since there are no roads or bridges in the region, local people provide transportation from the river by cable car.

Zafar Iqbal, one of the teachers in the region, said that due to the lack of transport infrastructure in the region, where children are stranded for hours on the cable car, at least 150 students make a dangerous cable car trip to go to the school. every day.

The Prime Minister of the caretaker government, Kakar, has ordered the immediate closure of all cable cars that are unusable and do not meet safety standards. (AGENCIES)
