Forest fires in the US

Two people died in the wildfires that have been raging since August 18 in the US state of Washington.

Firefighters announced that one person was killed in the Oregon fire east of Spokane, Washington state, and the other in the Gray fire west of the city. According to KREM-TV broadcast news in the state, the mayor of Medical Lake, west of Spokane, Terri Cooper, claimed that 5,000 people were evacuated due to the Gray fire.

In the forest fires that have been registered in the state since August 18, according to the first determinations, 265 structures were destroyed, wooded areas and agricultural land were damaged, and interstate highways were closed.

Washington Governor Jay Inslee, who visited the areas affected by the fire on August 20, declared a state of emergency. Making a statement on social media platform X, formerly Twitter, Inslee reported that he had spoken with US President Joe Biden and Federal Emergency Management Agency President Deanne Criswell about the federal aid for firefighting operations.

Fire brigade officials indicated that there may not be an official evacuation announcement and that citizens should evacuate their places immediately if necessary.

It is recorded that 137 square kilometers of area across the state have been reduced to ashes in wildfires since the beginning of the year. (AA)
