North Korean leader closely watches missile test
A photo has been released showing North Korean leader Kim Jong-un watching the test launch of his country’s strategic cruise missiles after the start of the joint military exercise between the US and South Korean militaries.
According to the North Korean official Korean Central News Agency (KCNA), Kim arranged an inspection trip to the patrol ship to review weapons and war preparations. In the news where the date of the visit was not specified, it was reported that Kim watched the strategic cruise missile launch exercise after the visit, and the photo of the North Korean leader watching the missile launched from the patrol ship was published.
In a statement on North Korea’s missile tests, it was noted that the ship showed its attack capability and combat readiness by hitting designated targets “without errors.” Indicating that he will support efforts to build strong warships and modernize ship and underwater weapons systems for the country’s navy, Kim demanded that the fleet with the ship intensify its training, always set an example in preparation for war and always take the initiative in strengthening the army.
JOINT US-SOUTH KOREA EXERCISE
South Korea and the United States have started their joint military exercises called “Ulchi Freedom Shield (UFS)”, which will last 11 days in South Korea.
Within the scope of the exercise, which includes activities such as simulation, joint combat training, and Ulchi civil defense exercise, a total of 30 different field studies are planned. In addition to last year’s exercise, this year’s exercise will include training on rapid troop readiness and countering disinformation by North Korea.
In the exercise, fighter jet pilots will be trained to detect and intercept enemy aircraft, and air defense and anti-missile forces to respond to possible missile attacks.
The exercise will involve the United Nations Command (UN) in South Korea, as well as the United States and South Korea, as well as Australia, Canada, France, the United Kingdom, Greece, Italy, New Zealand, the Philippines and Thailand.
Experts believe that the joint exercise in question will increase tensions between countries in the region, especially North Korea. (AA)
