Israeli Foreign Minister Eli Cohen had declared the previous day that an Israeli citizen sentenced to 10 years in prison for drug trafficking in Turkey would return to his country as a result of contacts established on the Ankara-Israel line.

Commenting on social media platform X, Cohen said: “It is fortunate that Danny Awka, who was sentenced to 10 years in prison following the intervention of President Herzog, myself and other officials, is returning to his family earlier this week. …This is part of the many efforts made by the State of Israel and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for the Israeli citizens and is a testament to the rapprochement between Israel and Turkey.I would like to thank President Erdoğan and Foreign Minister Fidan, who contributed to the solution of the problem.
