Crown Princess Leonor of Spain begins military training

Princess Leonor, the 17-year-old daughter of King Felipe VI of Spain and Queen Letizia, has begun military training.

The photographs of the young princess in uniform, taken on her first day of training at the military school, were published in the Spanish press. Leonor, heir to the Spanish throne, will train for three years at the military school, as part of the royal tradition.

The moments in which Princess Leonor, who wore a camouflage suit on her first day of training at the Zaragoza Military School, became an agenda in the country. This different image of the Princess, who usually follows in the footsteps of her mother, Queen Letizia, with her elegant clothing, caused a great impact in the Spanish press.

Princess Leonor went this Thursday to the Zaragoza headquarters with her family, enlisting in the army and participating in the orientation program to prepare for military life. Meanwhile, she drew attention to the use of the army uniform by King Philip.

King Felipe VI, Queen Letizia and her 16-year-old sister Sofía accompanied Princess Leonor during her enlistment in the army.

The future Queen of Spain, expressing her excitement and nervousness in her statements to the press, said: “I am very moved to know the value that is given to our army in Spain. This is a very important moment in my life,” she said.

After the initial training, it was said that the Princess’s hair would be cut according to the army’s rules and that she would start working in military equipment. In military training in the Spanish army, very strict rules apply to candidate soldiers.

King Felipe VI and his father, King Juan Carlos, had also received military training according to royal rules. Princess Eleanor is expected to attend the naval school after the initial training process.
