Compensation record for intern who was verbally abused at work
England speaks to Emma Tahir, who works as a trainee project inspector at a natural gas and electricity company… Tahir, who said he had been verbally and physically abused by his supervisor Colin Higgins at National Grid, has addressed the court.
Stating that she was subjected to sexual harassment, accusations and verbal abuse during her employment, the young woman said: “Higgins told me that if he was younger, we would definitely have sex. “He kept asking me to take off my overalls and tried to get physically close,” she said. Tahir, in his 20s, said: “He said he loved me and said I was his favorite employee.”
It turned out that Higgins, in her 50s, wrote in an email: “Marry me,” and the young woman did not even reply. After Tahir reported this to her superiors, Higgins continued her duty while an investigation was launched.
But after Tahir stepped down in 2021, he sued the company. Following the hearing held the day before, the court decided to pay Tahir 357 thousand pounds (approximately TL 12 million).
