Pentagon sex abuse scandal breaks out

The Pentagon report released today discusses the rise in sexual abuse and harassment at military academies. In the report, it was emphasized that comprehensive reforms should be carried out, including many suggestions, including the training of student leaders, to prevent the incidents.

In the report, which exposes the causes of the problems to which the students of the military school are exposed, the contradiction between what the students learned in the curriculum and what they saw from their teachers was also included.

In the report, it was mentioned that students often talk about stress, abuse and other similar everyday problems outside of school, and it was suggested that these problems should also be addressed in classes.

The report also indicated that students who had just entered the Air Force Academy were subjected to mistreatment and intimidation.

Senior Pentagon official Elizabeth Foster said that while the military academies have strong programs, unhealthy management styles in the schools have reduced the effectiveness of these programs.

ONE IN 5 GIRLS STUDENTS HAS BEEN SEXUALLY HARASSED

In March, the Pentagon issued a report on cases of sexual harassment at air, military and naval schools during the 2021-2022 academic year.

In the report in question, it was revealed that one in 5 female students in military schools were victims of sexual harassment and that attacks increased by 18 percent compared to the previous academic year.

In the report, which included the results of the survey in which the cadets participated without writing their names, it was noted that there was an increase in “all types of sexual assault”, from harassment to rape, and that “alcohol” was the greater cause. of all these attacks.

Due to the increase in cases of abuse, Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin has ordered on-site investigations at the US Naval Academy in Maryland, the Air Force Academy in Colorado, and the US Military Academy. at West Point, New York, to investigate problems and identify solutions.

Acknowledging that military academies “have a lot to do to stop sexual assault and harassment,” Austin said the increase in assault and harassment is “disturbing and unacceptable.” (AA)
