The fire in the Canary Islands is out of control! People are being evacuated.
Spain fights against fires. Efforts continue to extinguish the fire on the island of Tenerife and evacuate people at risk.
The president of the Autonomous Administration of the Canary Islands, Fernando Clavijo, has said in statements to the press: “The fire is out of control. The outlook doesn’t look very positive.” he used his statements.
Stating that it is the “worst forest fire” in the last 40 years, Clavijo stated that the extinction work is advancing with extreme difficulty because the forest fire created “its own climate” contrary to estimates.
2 thousand 600 hectares of surface turned into ash
Clavijo, who stressed that it is “critical” to put out the fire in Tenerife as soon as possible, said that the weather will increase with each passing day until Sunday.
Noting that 2,600 hectares of land were left ash in less than 48 hours, Clavijo pointed out that more than 200 troops and 13 aircraft and helicopters participated in the extinction work.
Approximately 7,600 people were reportedly warned to evacuate to allow firefighters to move more comfortably in the region.
It was reported that the towns of Arrate, Chivisaya, Media Montaña, Ajafona and Las Lagunetas, where the fire was threatening, were evacuated as a precaution, as well as the roads leading to the mountains in the north of the island were temporarily closed. (AA)
