Danger at Home: Radioactive Material Seized in Australia Raid

According to ABC News, in a statement from the Australian Border Force, the home of the person known to work at Sydney Airport has been reported to have been raided.

In the statement, it was indicated that a substance containing radioactive isotopes was found in the house.

Experts from the NSW Fire and Rescue team explained that the isotopes in the floor give off low levels of radiation and this substance is used in many different areas.

Noting that the substance was kept in suitable and protected containers, the experts stated that there was no danger of radiation leakage and that the substance was sealed.

SAFE AREA

The Australian Nuclear Science and Technology Organization (ANSTO) also announced that a support team has been dispatched to the area and that the 10-meter area around the apartment has been declared a no-go zone at short notice.

None of the residents of the apartment, who were sent to the hospital for radiation tests, were noted to have radiation above normal.

After environmental protection authorities determined that there was no radiation risk, the area was announced to be safe.

The Australian Radiological Protection and Nuclear Safety Agency (ARPANSA) reported that nuclear isotopes (radioisotopes) are used in many fields, including health, agriculture and radiopharmacology.

An agency spokesman said: “The radioactive hazard can vary depending on the type of radioisotope and how it is stored.” he used the phrase. (AA)
