Attacks on Christian homes in Pakistan heighten tensions
More than 100 people were arrested in the Pakistani province of Punjab for attacks on churches and homes of Christian minorities for alleged desecration of the Holy Quran by a Christian.
According to national press reports, a Christian in the city of Jaranvala, in the Faisalabad region of Punjab, was alleged to have disrespected the Holy Quran. A group that reacted to the alleged disrespect for the Holy Quran attacked the houses of the person in question and other Christians in the city and damaged churches.
STRONG WARNING FROM THE PRIME MINISTER
More than 6,000 security forces were deployed in the regions where the incidents occurred to ensure public order. Authorities announced that there were no casualties or injuries in the incidents.
The Prime Minister of the interim government, Anvarul Hak Kakar, condemned the incidents in a statement on his social media account, saying that tough action will be taken against those who break the law and target minorities.
After the attacks, a high-level investigation was ordered. (AA)
