Tensions rise again in the West Bank
Clashes broke out between Israeli soldiers, who stormed the city of Nablus, in the north of the occupied West Bank, and youth from the region.
According to eyewitnesses in the region, the Israeli army armed forces carried out a security raid on the place known as the “Yusuf Seat” in eastern Nablus to ensure that Jewish settlers perform their religious rituals.
Palestinian youths blocked roads on the paths of Israeli soldiers in Nablus by burning tires and tried to prevent the attack by throwing empty glass bottles and stones at the convoy. Israeli soldiers also used live ammunition and tear gas canisters against them. Armed clashes broke out between Palestinian gunmen and Israeli soldiers in the area near Yusuf Maqam.
In its statement, the Palestinian Red Crescent noted that Israeli soldiers wounded a Palestinian with live bullets and prevented emergency services from reaching the area for medical attention. On the other hand, it was reported that dozens of people affected by the tear gas used were treated in the area.
Jewish settlers raid the area, often known as “Joseph’s Seat”, under the protection of the Israeli army, to perform religious rituals. Jews believe that the tomb of the prophet Yusuf is located in the “seat of Yusuf” located in the West Bank city of Nablus. However, many archaeologists claim that the tomb in question has a history of several centuries and belongs to a Muslim named Yusuf ed-Duveykat. (AA)
