Conflict in Libya: 27 dead

In the statement made by the Support and First Aid Center of Libya, the loss of life and injuries in the clashes that began yesterday in Tripoli are reported. It was reported that 27 people lost their lives and 106 people were injured in the clashes that lasted for two days.

It is not yet known whether the casualties were civilians or due to conflicting forces.

A ceasefire was declared

Clashes broke out yesterday in some parts of the capital between the Unit against Crime and Terrorism “Rada” affiliated with the Presidency of the Presidential Council of Libya and the “444 Brigade” affiliated with the Government of National Unity.

The Libyan authorities announced that clashes continue today in the south of the capital and in the Ayn Zara regions.

While no official statement was made about the cause of the clashes, there were reports in the Libyan press that the conflict was ignited when the “Rada” Anti-Crime and Terror Unit arrested the commander of the “444 Brigade” Mahmud Hamza.

Libya’s Government of National Unity announced that a ceasefire had been declared in the two-day clashes in the capital Tripoli.

It was announced that Prime Minister Abdulhamid Dibeybe had agreed with notables in the Sug al-Friday region of Tripoli to hand over the commander of “444 Brigade” Mahmud Hamza to a “neutral section” and establish a ceasefire.

While no information was provided about the “neutral section” in question, Walid al-Lafi, Minister of State for Communication and Political Affairs of the Government of National Unity, claimed that Hamza, the commander of the “444 Brigade”, had been handed over. to the “neutral section”.

There were short-term clashes between the two sides in the capital Tripoli on May 28.

The “Rada” and the “444 Brigade” are considered the two most powerful militias operating in the west of the country. (AA)
