Israel announced: Attempted attack on the border…
In a written statement from the Israeli army, it was claimed that a suspect who was approaching the border fence in the Metula region, on the border with Lebanon, threw a Molotov cocktail towards the fence.
The statement indicated that as a result of the action there was slight damage to one of the sewers in the area where the fence was located.
On the other hand, it was reported in the Israeli media that the action was organized by “a Hezbollah element” and that the Israeli soldiers responded by firing into the air as a warning.
TENSIONS ON THE LEBANON-ISRAEL BORDER
After Israel withdrew from southern Lebanon, which it occupied in 1982, in the year 2000, the security of the 120-kilometre-long border came under the control of the United Nations Interim Peacekeeping Force. (UNIFIL).
The term “Blue Line” is used for the border under the control of UNIFIL, and UNIFIL patrols the entire region to ensure security.
Israel has recently increased its reinforcement activities, such as trenches and barbed wire along the border line, as well as occupying the entire town of Gajar, some of which belong to Lebanon, on the border and erecting a fence around it.
On August 11, Vahid Jalalzade, Chairman of the Iranian Parliament’s Foreign Policy and National Security Committee, visited the Lebanese border village of Marun al-Ras.
During his visit to the “Garden of Iran” in the town, Celalzade said: “Israel’s existence must be ended.” he had used the words. (AA)
