News in Niger, where the military coup took place

One after another, events are taking place in Niger under the shadow of the coup. A joint delegation from the Wahhabi and Tijani sects in Nigeria met with junta leader Abdurrahmane Tchiani in Niger.

Speaking to the Nigerian press after the meeting, Abdullahi Bala Lau, leader of the Jamaat-ü Izaleti’l-Bid’a and Ikameti’s-Sunna (JIBWIS) group, stated that the meeting lasted about 3 hours.

At the meeting, Lau claimed that Tchiani agreed to have a dialogue with ECOWAS, saying, “Tchiani did not provide information on when the dialogue would take place, but he said that they are always ready for dialogue.” he used the phrase.

BOTH NEGOTIATION AND MILITARY INTERVENTION ARE ON THE TABLE

ECOWAS, at the summit held in Nigeria on August 10, stressed that the negotiation path for resolving the crisis in Niger remains open, but drew attention to the fact that the use of force remains on the table as a last resort .

In this context, the defense ministers of ECOWAS member countries were instructed to “make and deploy surveillance forces.”

No information was shared about where and when the reserve forces would be deployed.

MILITARY INTERVENTION HAS BEEN ADVISED LAST MONTH

ECOWAS met for the first time on July 30 after the military took power in Niger on July 26, giving the junta 7 days to release President Mohammed Bazum and return to duty.

The one-week deadline given by ECOWAS to the military junta expired at midnight on August 6. ECOWAS stated that it would consider all options, including military intervention, if its demands were not met during this period and, contrary to expectations, it did not launch a military operation.

The possibility of military intervention also provoked the reaction of other junta governments in West Africa.

Burkina Faso and Mali, where the military is in the administration, warned ECOWAS that military intervention in Niger means making war on them, in a joint statement they released, and Guinea also made a statement of support for the junta. (AA)
