In addition to the nudist protests, the removal of the warning signs with pictures put up by the municipality angered the island’s mayoress, Lilian Stefanaki.

Mayor Stefanaki put up the ‘no nudism’ signs on the beaches again and published a new announcement on the official website of the municipality.

He stated that they will not back down on the decision. The mayor of Gavdos, stating his determination not to back down until the nudists come to their senses and put on their bathing suits on the beach, said: “The signs that the Municipality of Gavdos put up on the beaches of the island were again removed and destroyed by unidentified persons. Gavdos Municipality has again taken legal action to protect public property. He also erected new signs. The fight will continue,” he said.
