Obama family chef dies
In a statement issued by the Massachusetts Police Department, it was indicated that the lifeless body of 45-year-old Tafari Campbell was found, who disappeared in the pond where he went to row on the state’s Marthas Vineyard island.
According to the release, the police and fire departments were notified of a stand-up paddleboarder who dove into the Edgartown pond around 7:46 p.m. on July 23 and did not resurface.
After notification, extensive search and rescue efforts were launched with the support of many institutions. The rescue operation, which was halted overnight after several hours of searching, has restarted to allow response teams to re-equip and assess next steps as the missing surfer could not be found.
In addition to marine elements such as divers and side-scan sonar boat crews, helicopter crews for air support also participated in the search efforts.
FOUND AT 2.4 METERS DEEP
At around 10:00 am local time, the surfer’s location was determined approximately 30 meters offshore and at a depth of 2.4 meters with the aid of a boat using side-scan sonar.
The surfer’s body was found and pulled from the pond. The missing surfer was identified as 45-year-old Tafari Campbell.
It was said that Campbell was working for former US President Barack Obama, was visiting Martha’s Vineyard, and that Barack and Michelle Obama were not at their residence near the pond at the time of the incident.
