Description of the Holy Quran by the Swedish minister
According to a written statement from the Lebanese Foreign Ministry, Swedish Foreign Minister Tobias Billström phoned Lebanese Foreign Minister Abdallah Buhabib.
During the meeting, Swedish Minister Billström said that his country regrets and condemns the disrespect for the Holy Quran and insulting actions against Islamic beliefs and symbols.
Lebanese Foreign Minister Buhabib expressed his satisfaction with Sweden’s position and called for additional practical steps to be taken to prevent the rise of Islamophobia and hate crimes.
Salwan Momika, of Iraqi origin living in Sweden, burned the Koran under police protection in front of the Stockholm Mosque on the first day of Eid al-Adha.
On July 20, Momika trampled on the Koran and the Iraqi flag under police protection outside the Iraqi embassy in Stockholm.
Thereafter, anti-Swedish protests took place in many cities in Lebanon and it was claimed that the Swedish ambassador to Beirut, Ann Dismorr, left the country for a planned vacation. (AA)
