The country is shaking! Mother-in-law of head of state arrested for falsifying documents
According to the Yonhap report, the Uijeongbu Court of Appeal rejected Choi’s request for reconsideration of the prison sentence handed down by the district court.
The Court of Appeal upheld the lower court’s decision and found Choi, 76, guilty of creating a false bank balance document and buying land in the city of Seongnam, south of Seoul, in October 2013.
Choi was arrested after the verdict. Claiming to be innocent, Choi fell ill after hearing the court’s decision.
WHAT HAPPENED?
Choi was convicted by the district court for document forgery in 2021 and sentenced to one year in prison, but was not arrested.
He was also prosecuted for operating a nursing home without a license in February 2013 and for illegally accepting approximately $1.8 million in state aid through 2015. Choi was ruled not guilty by the Seoul High Court in January 2022.
The fake paperwork Choi created shows $27 million in the account. (AA)
