The Chinese Hacked the US Ambassador’s Email
It has been announced that the Chinese hacker group “Storm-0558” has seized the emails of US Ambassador to Beijing Nicholas Burns and Assistant Secretary of State for East Asian and Pacific Affairs Daniel J. Kritenbrink in order to gather intelligence.
In the story, which CNN based on sources close to the matter, the incident in question was claimed to be within the scope of the “cyberattack on emails from institutions in the US,” for which Microsoft and the White House blame China. The China-based hacking group, also known as “Storm-0558”, reportedly attacked the email accounts of US Ambassador to Beijing Burns and US Secretary of State Antony Blinken and Deputy Assistant Secretary Kritenbrink, who recently traveled to China.
It has been claimed that the group may have accessed information about US domestic policy consultations and recent visits by top US officials to China through the email accounts it hacked.
