Carcinogenic substance found in Turkish eggs: the country stood up

The presence of carcinogenic substances in the eggs that Taiwan bought from Turkey became the country’s agenda.

Government Agriculture Minister Chen Chi-chung, who bought 127 tons of eggs, announced that traces of nitrofurans, a banned substance, were found in the eggs bought in Turkey. “The government will request the Turkish supplier to compensate it according to the agreement,” Chi-chung said.

In early July, it was announced that all inspected eggs had been destroyed, while the Taiwan Food and Drug Administration also announced that they were not placed on the local market.

PURCHASE FROM Türkiye STOPPED

Peter Chen, executive director of the Taiwan National Livestock Industry Corporation, who will communicate with Turkish officials on behalf of the Taiwanese government, announced that the country has a loss of approximately $160,000. “Purchases from Turkey stopped at the end of June and the government turned to imports from the US,” Chen said.

After the country’s egg crisis, Taiwan began buying eggs from Brazil, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore and Thailand, including Turkey. It was also claimed that the Taiwanese government continues to buy eggs from the US, Australia and Japan.
