Anti-government demonstrations prohibited
Opposition demonstrations against the government are prohibited in Kenya.
Kenya Police Inspector General Japtep Koome announced in a statement that they will not allow the planned opposition demonstrations.
Koome announced that the protests, which are scheduled to start today and last for 3 days, are illegal.
Drawing attention to the loss of life in the previous demonstrations, Koome claimed that no legal permission was obtained for the demonstrations.
On the other hand, due to the protests, the Kenya Railways Authority announced that it has suspended train services in the capital, Nairobi.
The leader of the opposition coalition Azimio, Raila Odinga, announced that as of today they will start new protests.
In Kenya, 10 people lost their lives in demonstrations in many cities, especially in the capital, Nairobi and Mombasa, by the opposition last week.
Opponents of the law, which provides for government-enacted tax increases, want to end the cost of living. (AA)
