Italy is on high alert due to extreme heat!

The Italian Ministry of Health, which determines the level of risk in the air temperature in Italy in 4 color categories, announced that “red alert” for today, Ancona, Bologna, Bolzano, Brescia, Cagliari, Campobasso, Florence, Frosinone, Latina, Messina, Palermo, Perugia, Pescara, Rieti, Rome, Trieste, Viterbo, Naples, Venice, Verona will also add Catania, Civitavecchia and Turin tomorrow, he said. Thus, alerts were issued in 23 of the 27 main cities in the country due to extreme heat.

He specified that the extreme heat will lose its effect on Thursday and the number of cities with “red alert” will be reduced to 18. Meanwhile, in the meteorological data shared by the “Il Meteo” website, it was recorded that air temperatures reached their peak in some places today and reached 46-47 degrees in certain parts of Sicily and 45-46 degrees in Sardinia.

THE TEMPERATURE HAS BEEN 45 DEGREES IN THE CAPITAL ROME

Tourists who came to see the historical city in the capital Rome, where the air temperature varies between 41 and 45 degrees during the day, had a hard time due to the heat. Tourists were seen filling water bottles at the city’s historic fountains and trying to protect themselves from the sun with their umbrellas and hats.

The historic Spanish Steps, one of the tourist attractions in Rome, was observed to be empty due to the high air temperature. The pharmacy thermometer near the stairs was determined to read 46 degrees.

Help points were also set up in the capital to quickly respond to those who may become ill from the heat.

ELECTRICITY CONSUMPTION INCREASED

Due to the increase in temperatures throughout the country, electricity consumption has also increased due to the use of household appliances such as air conditioners and fans, which are used to reduce the ambient temperature.

According to data from electricity distribution network operator Terna, electricity consumption reached the “highest level this year” at 56.67 gigawatts per day on July 17, when the air temperature was high.

According to Italian press reports, it was warned that the number of rodents such as mice could increase in city centers due to the extremely hot weather. (AA)
