Asthmatic boy dies from wildfire smoke
In the Canadian province of British Columbia, a 9-year-old boy with asthma died from a smoke attack following wildfires.
Amber Vigh, mother of Carter Vigh, who lives in the state’s 100 Mile House district, told CBC her asthmatic son had a severe attack last week and was hospitalized due to smoke from the wildfires. Amber Vigh announced that her son Carter died yesterday at the hospital.
“AN UNKNOWN LOSS”
Following the death of the asthmatic boy, the British Columbia Institute of Forensic Medicine issued a statewide public safety bulletin. The bulletin, which warned of the risks of wildfire smoke, described the 9-year-old’s death as a “heartbreaking loss”.
In the bulletin, it was noted that more than 360 wildfires continue in the state and the fumes reduce air quality. Government and health officials are warning the public to be careful, stating that polluted air can make people sick, worsen the condition of patients, or hasten death. (AA)
