Germany: No one who wages war should go unpunished
Making a statement on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the Rome status of the International Criminal Court (ICC), German Foreign Minister Baerbock stressed that no one who wages war in the 21st century should go unpunished.
Noting that international law, which is the foundation of the world community, has gained a new structure with the ICC, Baerbock said: “Finally, states have accepted that the most serious crimes affecting the international community as a whole should not go unpunished .” saying.
Emphasizing that “the ICC is already a sharp sword” in the eyes of the perpetrators, Baerbock said: “In the eyes of the victims, the ICC is a hope that their suffering does not go unpunished.” he used the phrase.
“OBSTACLES STILL TOO HIGH”
Minister Baerbock, referring to Russia’s war against Ukraine, said: “The impeachment gap hurts us. The attack is a crime against peace, the most precious asset we have. The barriers to prosecution remain very high here. That is why we want to work with our partners to further develop international law in line with our 21st century realities.” he performed the assessment of it.
Noting that “the barbarity of the Russian war is evident in the thousands of children exiled from the Ukraine to Russia,” Baerbock said:
“Russia deprives them not only of their childhood, but also of their identity and future. The fact that the ICC has already launched an investigation is an important step towards justice for the children and their families.” (AA)
