Erdogan said: “There is no one named Mitsotakis for me”: a shocking image at the NATO Summit

A critical juncture has passed between Turkey and Greece: President Erdogan and Greek Prime Minister Kiriakos Mitsotakis, who survived two elections this year, met in Vilnius, the capital of Lithuania, where the NATO Leaders Summit was held. .

Mitsotakis and Erdogan, who survived two consecutive elections this year, last met in Istanbul in March 2022. But later, cold winds blew between the two names.

President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan met with Greek Prime Minister Kiryakos Mitsotakis as part of the NATO Heads of State and Government Summit. At the meeting, which was also attended by the delegations, Erdoğan was accompanied by Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan and Senior Adviser to the Presidency, Ambassador Akif Çağatay Kılıç.

AGREED

In a statement from the Ministry of National Defense, Güler, who was accompanying President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan in Vilnius for the NATO Leaders’ Summit, met with Dendias, the Greek Defense Minister. During the meeting, the importance of maintaining the positive agenda in the relations between the two countries and keeping the channels of dialogue open was highlighted, and the agreement on the resumption of the Confidence-Building Measures Meetings was ratified.

On the other hand, the Directorate of Communications also issued a statement. The statement read: “In President Erdogan’s meeting with Mitsotakis, an agreement was reached on the activation of multiple communication channels between Turkey and Greece.”

A statement on the bilateral meeting between Erdogan and Miçotakis was also released. “The two leaders agreed that the next meeting of the High-Level Cooperation Council will be held in Thessaloniki in the fall and entrusted the two Foreign Ministers to guide the processes and report on progress,” the statement said.

THEY MEET FOR THE LAST TIME IN MARCH

As the two names met for the first time in over a year, this situation brought to mind the words of President Erdogan, who added to the tension by saying “Miçotakis is over for me” early last year.

Erdogan and Miçotakis last met in Istanbul in March last year. Shortly after the two names watched the Istanbul sight and held a meeting, tensions between the two countries rose. Mitsotakis’ complaint about Turkey during his visit to the US at the time provoked Erdogan’s reaction.

HE SAID “There is no one called Micotakis for me”

In remarks he made at the time, Erdogan had spoken harshly to Mitsotakis.

Erdoğan said: “There is no one named Miçotakis for me anymore. I would never agree to have such a meeting with him. Because we are on the road with honest and honorable politicians who will keep his word. Let Mitsotakis think for himself. It doesn’t matter who he meets, how he sets bases, let him set them; we are enough for us”.
