Strong reaction from Russia: ‘A very dangerous plan’
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov made assessments of Ukraine’s possible NATO membership and the security guarantees the G7 plans to give the country, speaking to reporters in the capital Moscow.
Stating that they negatively approached the possibility of Ukraine joining NATO, Peskov said: “We have a very negative attitude towards Ukraine’s participation in NATO. This issue is directly related to the statement made today that the G7 countries will provide security guarantees, and this is expressed in relation to Ukraine. “We think this is deeply flawed and potentially very dangerous,” he said.
Emphasizing that giving Ukraine security guarantees would pose a danger to Russia’s security, Peskov said: “(G7) By giving any security guarantee to Ukraine, these countries are actually ignoring the principle of indivisibility of international security. In other words, they are encroaching on Russia’s security by giving Ukraine security guarantees,” he said.
Peskov also assessed the possibilities of delivering cluster munitions to Ukraine and the use of the country against Russia.
In a written statement by the British government, it was reported that the G7 countries will today sign a document containing long-term security guarantees for Ukraine. (AA)
