Comment drawing attention to Erdogan’s departure from the EU: he used the flag emoji

The words of President Erdogan, who made a statement as he left Turkey for the NATO Leaders Summit that will take place tomorrow in Lithuania, became the agenda.

Speaking at Atatürk Airport today, Erdoğan said: “I am calling on these countries that have kept Turkey waiting at the gates of the European Union for more than 50 years. But I will also scream in Vilnius. First, clear the way for Turkey in the European Union and let’s prepare the way for Sweden, as we did in Finland.” Erdogan, who said he would meet NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg and Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson, used the phrase “We want the promises made to be kept.”

Carl Bildt responded to Erdogan’s statements.

In response to these remarks, Stoltenberg said Ankara supports EU membership, but Sweden has already fulfilled the conditions to join NATO.

After Stoltenberg came another statement from former Swedish foreign minister Carl Bildt, who closely follows Turkey’s EU membership.

Bildt, who came to Turkey frequently for a while and made statements about Ankara, shared on Twitter. Bildt evaluated Erdogan’s call by sharing that he used a lot of flag emoji.

Bildt said: “Turkey’s EU accession negotiations are not going smoothly. It started in 2003 but stopped in recent years when Turkey did not take the necessary measures. There is also the unresolved Cyprus problem, and there is also the inability to understand the principles of some EU member states. But Sweden was not one of them.
