Rainy nightmare in Japan: evacuation call for hundreds of thousands
A total of 15 landslides occurred in different parts of the city of Izumo in the state due to the rains. 20 regions of the city were negatively affected by the flooding of the river.
According to the statement from the local municipality, 4 districts of Izumo city lost contact with the center due to loss of access to roads due to flooding.
The Japan Meteorological Agency updated its public appeals after local rains intensified in the country’s Shimane province.
The evacuation of 370,000 people across Shimane province was requested. The agency followed through with its warnings that mudslides and flooding could continue.
In different cities in the Kyushu region of the country, 360 people were required to evacuate as a result of heavy rains earlier in the week.
The “suyu” rainy season, known as “plum rains” in the East Asian country of Japan, lasts from late May to mid-July. (AA)
