Second Chernobyl panic in Ukraine: “Nuclear leak can reach Turkey”
There have been frightening statements from Kiev and Moscow regarding the Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant, the largest nuclear facility in Europe, which has been caught on fire from Ukrainian and Russian forces for months.
Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskiy has claimed that Russia has placed explosives on the roof of the power plant it controls and plans to detonate the plant. Zelenskiy, who claimed that according to Ukrainian intelligence the power plant could explode at any moment, said he also discussed the situation yesterday with French President Emmanuel Macron and that they are in contact with the International Atomic Energy Agency affiliated with the UNITED NATIONS.
The Ukrainian military also reiterated its claim that explosives were planted on the roofs of two reactors at the power plant. In the statement, which said that Russia would try to blame Ukraine in this way, the army was reported to be on alert.
Russia, on the other hand, claimed that the Ukrainian military was planning to attack the nuclear power plant. Renat Karchaa, adviser to Russia’s Rosenergoatom nuclear power agency, said Ukraine plans to launch a long-range kamikaze attack at midnight against the power plant.

According to the map published in the Russian press, Turkey is one of the countries that will be affected by a possible nuclear disaster in Zaporozhye.
MAP FEARING THE RUSSIAN PRESS
Zaporizhia, which Russia seized just after the invasion of Ukraine, has been on the agenda for months with accusations of provocation. It is said that if the power plant explodes, the biggest nuclear leak after the Chernobyl disaster in 1986 will affect the entire region.
Russian nuclear energy expert Igor Nikulin, in a statement to the Russian press, listed the countries that would be affected by the radioactive leak if Zaporizhia were to explode. Noting that the explosion could have a Chernobyl-like effect, Nikulin stressed that regions on the Black Sea coast would be badly affected.
The Russian expert said that the most affected places will be Kherson, Odessa and Crimea, and that the radiation will reach Bulgaria, Romania and Turkey. Pointing out that radioactive clouds can also reach Poland, Romania and Hungary depending on the direction of the wind, Nikulin warned that the impact of a possible leak in Zaporizhia could reach serious dimensions as it is the largest nuclear power plant in Europe.
The map published on Life news, a news site close to the Russian government, also shows that the nuclear leak will affect the northern and central regions of Turkey.
