Taliban close beauty salons
After US-led Western forces left Afghanistan in 2021, the Taliban regime, which took over the country, made another remarkable decision.
According to the BBC report, the Taliban, who previously barred women from schools, gyms and parks, are now demanding beauty salons close within a month. During their rule from 1996 to 2001, the Taliban closed women’s beauty salons.
Speaking to the BBC, an Afghan woman said her friends had confirmed that beauty salons in Kabul and elsewhere had been closed, saying: “Shocking news for Afghan women. I went out and saw that all the salons in my area were closed.” saying.
‘IT IS NOT A POLITICAL PLAN THAT IS NOT FOR WOMEN’
There has been a backlash against the Taliban, who have consistently restricted women’s freedoms since they took power in 2021.
Speaking to the BBC, another Afghan woman said: “The Taliban are taking away the most basic human rights from Afghan women. With this decision they are now depriving women of serving other women. I was totally shocked when I heard the news. The Taliban don’t seem to have any political plans other than to focus on female bodies. They are trying to remove women from all levels of public life.” saying.
After the Taliban regained power two years ago, they did not close their beauty salons, but they did board up their windows and paint women’s faces on billboards outside the salons.
The Taliban required women to dress to show only their eyes and to have a male relative with them if they traveled more than 72 km.
The Taliban regime recently banned women from working for the United Nations in Afghanistan.
