The mandate of the NATO Secretary General is extended

NATO allies have agreed to extend the term of NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg until October 1, 2024, NATO said in a statement.

“NATO allies agreed on Tuesday, July 4, 2023 to extend the term of Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg for another year until October 1, 2024,” the statement said. The decision will be approved by NATO heads of state and government at the Vilnius Summit.

SERVICE TIME HAS BEEN EXTENDED 3 TIMES BEFORE

Stoltenberg made a statement on the extension of his term. “I am honored by the decision of the NATO allies to extend my term as Secretary General. “The transatlantic link between Europe and North America has provided our freedom and security for nearly seventy-five years, and in a more dangerous world, our great alliance is more important than ever.”

Norway’s former prime minister Stoltenberg, 64, has seen his term extended three times before.

I DO NOT INTEND TO REQUEST AN EXTENSION OF MY TERM

On the other hand, Stoltenberg, when asked if he would extend his NATO duty at the joint press conference held after meeting German Chancellor Olaf Scholz in the capital Berlin during his visit to Germany last month, said: “No. I have nothing new. say in this regard, I want an extension of my term, I do not have that intention. My only plan is to focus on my role as Secretary General and do my job here until my term ends this fall, and I really have no other plan.” (AGENCIES)
