UN: All countries must respect immigrants
UN Deputy Spokesman Farhan Haq answered a question on the issue at the daily press briefing.
Asked whether the push of migrants from Greece into Turkish territorial waters violated international law, Haq said the Geneva office was initially interested in the issue.
“All countries should respect immigrants,” Haq said. It must guarantee the dignity and safety of immigrants.” he said.
84 IMMIGRANTS REJECTED BY GREECE
84 irregular migrants pushed into Turkish territorial waters by Greek elements off the coast of Çanakkale’s Ayvacık district were rescued and landed.
Teams from the Coast Guard’s North Aegean Group Command had determined that there were irregular migrants in rubber boats off Ayvacık in the North Aegean.
84 people brought ashore were transferred to the Ayvacık Aliens Expulsion Center after the procedures. (AA)
