Another shock for Putin: Assassination averted at the last moment

Pro-Russian Governor Sergey Aksenov was reported to have survived the last-minute assassination attempt on Crimea, which Russia annexed from Ukraine in 2014.

Russian media reported that the FSB intelligence organization narrowly prevented Aksenov’s assassination. Aksenov, who is one of the names closest to President Vladimir Putin and played a major role in the Ukrainian war, has been on the agenda for some time with his decisions to seize the properties of Ukrainian businessmen in Crimea.

In the statement made by the FSB, it was stated that the person who planned to plant explosives in Aksenov’s car and received training for this purpose was caught red-handed. It was also recorded that the detainee admitted that he planned to detonate his vehicle with a remote control on the route where the convoy of the Crimean leader would pass.

The FSB shared the arrest footage of the person, who is said to be a Russian citizen. The attacker was allegedly trained in sabotage techniques by Ukraine and entered Crimea last month.

PRO-PUTIN RUSSIANS WERE TARGETED

According to Russian media, Putin thanked the FSB officials after the incident. Aksenov said that “all people related to the incident will be captured and the terrorist threat from Ukraine will be prevented.”

In recent months, some names who supported the occupation, including the daughter of the famous political scientist Aleksandır Dugin, have been assassinated in Russia.

Shaken by the rebellion of the Russian mercenary group Wagner, which fought on the front lines in Ukraine, against the Putin administration, Russia is using Crimea, which it has controlled for about 10 years, as a military base in the Ukrainian war.
