Former President Donald Trump lobbied the governor of Arizona in 2020 to adjust his state’s presidential election results. In one phone call, Trump pushed to find enough fraudulent votes to reverse his Arizona defeat, according to the Washington Post.
The newspaper spoke to three people familiar with the conversation. Trump reportedly asked to find evidence for his unsubstantiated claims that fraud had been committed during the election. Then-Arizona Governor Doug Ducey, a fellow Trump party, disagreed and backed Democrat Joe Biden’s victory.
Ducey had previously said he actually called Trump at the time, but would not say what was discussed. While he disagreed with Trump’s claims about the election result, he didn’t want an open discussion with the then president.
Georgia first
The Arizona allegations are very reminiscent of the Trump allegations in Georgia. In a recording of a telephone conversation with the secretary responsible for the elections in Georgia, Trump can be heard asking for enough votes to reverse the electoral defeat. The prosecution is currently investigating whether Trump exerted unequal pressure on the minister.
