The President of the Spanish Government begins his presidency of the EU with a visit to kyiv
The President of the Government of Spain, Pedro Sánchez, who today assumed the presidency of the European Union (EU) from Sweden, traveled to kyiv, the capital of Ukraine.
Sánchez, who this morning traveled by train to Kiev from Poland, shared on his social media account: “I wanted the first action of the Spanish presidency of the EU to be with Ukraine.” Sanchez also said: “I will convey the solidarity of all of Europe to the Ukrainian government and parliament. “We will continue to support the Ukrainian people until peace is established in Europe,” he said.
It was reported that as part of the visit of the Spanish Prime Minister to Kiev, he will meet with the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskiy, and will deliver a speech in the Ukrainian parliament.
In his speech for the week, Spanish Foreign Minister José Manuel Albares announced that they will work to speed up Ukraine’s candidacy process for the EU during the term of the EU presidency. (AA)
