Surcharge for moving single-use plastics from the Netherlands
In a written government statement, it said that companies will incur additional fees from customers for products that are sold, held or served in packages that contain, even partially, single-use plastic.
In the statement, it was noted that no additional fee will be charged if the containers brought by customers are used or the businesses sell with reusable plastic containers or packaging.
In the statement, it was indicated that the additional fee to be charged for plastic containers or packaging will be shown on a separate receipt, and will be charged 25 cents for plastic cups, 50 cents for food containers and 5 cents for plastic containers.
Noting that 19 million disposable plastic containers and food packaging are used daily in the country, it was emphasized that the government wants the use of reusable containers to be a rule.
In the statement, it was noted that contrary to popular belief, coffee packaging also contains plastic materials and the application partially covers products that contain plastic materials.
It has been reported that the application, which will start today, has been implemented in the scope of the Single Use Plastics Directive of the European Union. (AA)
