Eight years of political veto of former President Bolsonaro in Brazil

According to the news in the national media, the judge of the Supreme Electoral Tribunal (TSE), Carmen Lucía Antunes, affirmed that former President Bolsonaro was found guilty and announced that all his political rights until 2030 were taken from him by majority vote.

It has been reported that the far-right Bolsonaro, who has announced that he wants to run again as a candidate in the upcoming presidential elections, is preparing to appeal to the TSE.

Speaking to Itatiaia radio a few hours before the decision, Bolsonaro said he would appeal to the Supreme Court if a “political ban” decision were issued against him.

Bolsonaro’s lawyer, Tarcisio Vieira, in his June 23 statement, argued that the accusations were unfounded and that his client was merely expressing his point of view on the country’s electoral system.

APPEAL AGAINST BOLSONARO

Bolsonaro has been accused of attacking the personal rights of members of the Supreme Electoral Tribunal, abuse of authority and abuse of the media, calling the 2022 electoral system “fraudulent” and meeting with ambassadors while president.

Bolsonaro, in an interview with CNN Brazil on June 21, said the case was “trivial”, trying to create a storm in a glass of water.

In his meeting with the ambassadors, Bolsonaro argued that he did not “cheat” the electoral system and did not insult the deputies, and stated that he only shared with the ambassadors how the electoral system works.

Jair Bolsonaro, although he did not have any evidence at the time, argued that the electronic election system used in the country since 1996 was suspect, stated that the 2022 elections would be suspect, and insisted on the use of printed ballots. (AA)
