Community leader murdered in front of his farm
An armed attack was perpetrated against the community leader Angel Miguel Ariza in the town of Tame in the Administrative Region of Arauca in Colombia.
The Colombian Institute for Development and Peace Studies (Indepaz) said in a statement that Ariza was attacked in front of her farm.
The Ombudsman’s Office also condemned the attack, warning that there have been an increase in murders, kidnappings, threats and riots against community leaders and members of the unarmed former Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC) and asked the authorities for safety.
45 LEADERS KILLED SINCE THE BEGINNING OF THE YEAR
It was reported that the security forces sent to the place began an operation in the region.
It was shared that the activities of many armed groups in the region are known and that these organizations also fight for power among themselves.
According to data from Indepaz, 45 community leaders in the country have been assassinated since the beginning of the year, and the number exceeds 1,340 since November 2016.
