EU leaders pledge long-term support
The European Union wants to help ensure Ukraine’s long-term security, EU leaders agreed at the Brussels summit. Ukraine can count on “security commitments”, they say, although it has not yet been agreed what they will be.
European countries and their allies have kept Ukraine afloat with weapons, money and other aid ever since Russia invaded the country. But they are not yet ready to include Ukraine in the EU and/or NATO, which would only allow it to feel truly safe once the war is over. They want to give the country a guarantee that they can keep Russia at bay as long as she is not yet a member of the EU or NATO.
Trump: Putin “a little weakened” after the Wagner revolt
As Russian President Vladimir Putin is “somewhat weakened” after the short-lived mutiny by the Wagner Group mercenary army, the United States must now force a peace deal between Ukraine and Russia. This was stated by former President Donald Trump in an interview with the Reuters news agency.
“I want people to stop dying from this ridiculous war,” Trump said in a telephone conversation with Reuters. According to him, Ukraine has resisted vigorously since neighboring Russia invaded last February, thus earning “credit”.
