Expressing that violence has increased recently in northwestern Syria, Griffiths stated that they regret the loss of life.

Recalling that the UNSC resolution allowing cross-border assistance to Syria will expire on July 10, Griffiths said: “The UN Secretary-General has stated very clearly that the mandate of the Security Council’s cross-border assistance mechanism must be extended to other 12 months. . The situation in the field demands it”. he made the statement.

Emphasizing that the UN and its partners have reached 2.7 million people in need thanks to the mechanism in question, Griffiths stated that further negotiations are needed to develop cross-cutting assistance.

“Extending the mandate of the cross-border aid mechanism for another 12 months is vital to improving the humanitarian situation in Syria,” Griffiths said. he said.

Najat Rochdi, special adviser to UN Special Envoy for Syria Geir O. Pedersen, also noted that Pedersen continues to make efforts to reconvene the Constitutional Committee and that it is important to revive the political process.

In this context, Rochdi affirmed that they will maintain contact with the Arab, Astana and Western parties, as well as with Syria and said: “We will continue the coordination for the political solution carried out and assumed by Syria.” saying.

Stating that they also welcome cross-border aid to northwest Syria, Rochdi noted that it is important to extend the mandate of the cross-border aid mechanism.

Rochdi said that countries imposing sanctions on Syria should continue the aid they provide after the February 6 earthquakes in the center of Kahramanmaraş. (AA)
