USA Wagner name! The decision has been made to penalize
In the statement issued by the US Treasury Department, it was reported that the Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) imposed sanctions on 4 companies and one person associated with the Wagner Group and its founder Yevgeniy Prigojin.
The sanctioned companies based in the Central African Republic, the United Arab Emirates and Russia illegally traded gold to finance Wagner to maintain and expand its militaries, including in Ukraine and Africa, according to the statement.
Andrey Nikolayevich Ivanov, a Russian citizen who was sanctioned, was reported to be at the center of the activities of the Wagner Group units in Mali.
The statement said that Ivanov, who is a director of the Wagner Group, has been working closely with Prigojin’s Africa Politology and senior government officials in Mali on arms deals, mining issues and other activities of the Wagner Group in Mali.
“DAMAGE TO KEY STAKEHOLDERS”
Brian Nelson, Treasury Department’s Under Secretary for Terrorism and Financial Intelligence, said in a statement on the subject that Treasury sanctions harm key players in the Wagner Group’s financial network and international structure.
Nelson noted that the Wagner Group finances its operations in part by using natural resources in countries such as the Central African Republic and Mali, and stressed that the United States will continue to seek sources of revenue to reduce violence by the Wagner Group in Africa, Ukraine and elsewhere.
