2-day ceasefire in Sudan

Rapid Support Forces (HDK) commander Muhammed Hamdan Dagalu, who has been in conflict with the army in Sudan since April 15, declared a two-day “unilateral” ceasefire starting today.

“We declared a unilateral ceasefire, except for self-defense situations, on the eve of Eid and on the day of Eid al-Adha,” Dagalu said in the audio recording he posted on his Facebook account. Dagalu expressed his hope that the days of Eid will be an opportunity for reconciliation among the Sudanese people.

Expressing that they felt the difficult humanitarian conditions caused by the war, Dagalu said, “We hope that we will come out of the war more united and stronger.”

The Sudanese army wanted the HDK, which it once supported but considered a threat because it acted as an independent and parallel army, to be fully integrated into the army within 2 years. The war of words and tension, which began with the HDK’s declaration that it could accept this in a process of about 10 years after civilian rule, escalated into an armed conflict between the parties in the capital Khartoum and several cities in the April morning. fifteen.

According to the latest figures from the Sudanese Ministry of Health and the United Nations, more than 3,000 people have been killed and tens of thousands injured in the conflict, and more than 2.5 million people have been displaced inside and outside the country. (AA)
