Voting Ended in TRNC By-Election
Voting ended at 6:00 p.m. local time in 713 ballot boxes installed throughout the country and the sorting of the ballots began.
In the TRNC, where there are 210,121 registered voters, the Supreme Board of Elections announced that electoral participation was 30.58 percent.
In the by-election, which was held for the deputy of Nicosia, which became vacant due to the resignation of the People’s Party (HP) president, Kudret Özersay, 13 candidates are competing, 6 of them from the party.
While all TRNC voters voted for a Nicosia MP, only voters in the relevant neighborhoods voted for the chief and council of elders.
Due to electoral bans, it is prohibited to announce the results of the elections, make predictions or publish news about political propaganda until 7:00 p.m.
The results of the by-election are expected to be announced around 9:00 p.m. local time.
In the 50-seat TRNC Republican Assembly, the National Unity Party (UBP) has 24 deputies, the Democratic Party (DP) has 3 and the Renaissance Party (YDP) has 2 deputies.
While the opposition Turkish Republican Party (CTP) is represented by 18 deputies in parliament, there are 2 independent deputies who resigned from the People’s Party (HP). (AA)
