Violent explosion in high-voltage city in Russia
As fighters affiliated with the Russian mercenary force Wagner seized control of some military installations in Russia, the violent explosion in the town of Ristov, near the border with Ukraine, where tensions are high, raised fears.
Russian state-affiliated RT television reported that a loud explosion sound was heard near the headquarters of Russia’s Southern Command in the Rostov-on-Don region. RT reporter Roman Kosarev shared images of people running away in fright after the explosion, the source of which has not been revealed.
No explanation was given about the cause of the explosion, whether there were any injuries or damage.
‘We took the barracks without firing a single bullet’
Meanwhile, Wagner’s leader, Yevgeny Prigojin, argued that the fighters had captured the Russian headquarters in Rostov without firing a shot. Prigojin said they believe that the Russian people support the “march for justice” they organized.
The Reuters news agency announced that helicopters affiliated with the Russian army attacked Wagner’s forces from the air near the Voronezh region. While the tension quickly escalated into a hot-button conflict, Wagner’s group is claimed to have seized control of Rostov, which played a significant role in the logistics of the Ukrainian occupation, and advanced into western Russia.
