The “Report on Discrimination in the Austrian Educational System 2022” prepared by the IDB, which has been working for 7 years with students and educators who are exposed to discrimination in the educational system for reasons of religion, gender, culture, ethnic origin and the like, has been shared with the public.

158 incidents were recorded last year in the report, which includes examples of what happened, especially causes of discrimination.

ETHNIC ORIGIN AND REASON FOR RELIGIOUS START OF DISCRIMINATION

In the report, it was noted that 84 percent of people in educational institutions were exposed to discrimination primarily due to their ethnic origin and religious affiliation, with 36 percent of this rate being discriminatory and marginalizing behaviors towards Muslims.

In the report, it was stated that 61 percent of the perpetrators of discrimination were teachers, 22.5 percent were administrators, 6 percent were colleagues, and 4 percent were students.

MOST IN ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS

Noting that 59 percent of the country experiences discrimination primarily in primary schools, the report states that this rate is 25.5 percent in other primary education institutions, 11 percent in universities, and 4.5 percent cent in kindergartens.

IDB Manager Dr. Sonia Zaafrani, in her evaluation of the report, stated that they have been working for nearly 7 years and that various derivatives of discrimination against students and teachers have become part of the education system, and emphasized that urgent actions must be taken to oppose this. violence.

“We need to take action against this situation (discrimination) that present and future generations are exposed to in their youth, which causes them deep wounds and will continue to haunt them later in life,” Zaafrani said. he shared his opinion.
