Horrible explosion in China: Many people died
The gas explosion at a barbecue restaurant in northwest China’s Ningxia region last night caused great fear.
The explosion, which killed 31 people, was allegedly caused by a leaking liquefied petroleum gas tank at the restaurant, according to the state-controlled Xinhua news agency. 7 people were treated for burns and cuts caused by broken glass.
The restaurant in Yinchuan, the capital city of the Ningxia region, is known locally as a place with a loyal customer base. The explosion took place during the restaurant’s peak hours, and the dead reportedly included high school students and retirees.
Chinese President Xi Jinping ordered a nationwide security check after the incident.
Gas and chemical explosions occur from time to time in China, despite efforts to improve safety. In 2015, 173 people were killed in a series of explosions in the port city of Tianjin.
