Statement by President Erdogan from the White House
White House Homeland Security Council Strategic Communications Coordinator John Kirby responded to questions from reporters at the US State Department’s Center for Foreign Press.
Regarding Russia’s statements that the Black Sea Grain Initiative, which is expected to expire on July 18, will not be extended, Kirby said: “The entire world has benefited from the Black Sea Grain Initiative. We are grateful to Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan for his leadership in continuing this initiative.” he used the phrase.
Kirby said they are grateful to the UN for its role in the deal, stressing that the Black Sea Grains Initiative has benefited the whole world, especially countries suffering from food insecurity caused by the Ukraine-Russia War.
Noting that it would be “unfortunate” if Russia signals not to extend the duration of the agreement, Kirby stressed that they hope to extend the duration of the agreement and will continue to support the efforts of the UN and President Erdogan in this context as necessary.
“Türkiye HAS LEGAL SECURITY CONCERNS”
Kirby was also asked about Turkey’s operations against the PKK/PYD/YPG terrorist organization in northern Syria.
Coordinator Kirby said: “There are legitimate security concerns on this border in Turkey. They have been victims of terrorist attacks from beyond this border. We understand that.” He said.
Making the case that the United States is working with the so-called Syrian Democratic Forces in the fight against ISIS targets in Syria, Kirby suggested that it is important for Turkey to understand what the United States is doing in Syria. (AA)
