16 thousand people died! Scary report for Europe

The report of the World Meteorological Organization and the Copernicus Climate Change Service of the European Union (EU) entitled “Climate situation in Europe 2022” has been published.

According to the report’s findings, the average air temperature in Europe in 2022 was recorded as record temperatures, especially in countries in the west and south-west of the continent. Temperatures were only slightly below average in northwest Iceland and a small part of Turkey last year.

THE 40 DEGREES WERE EXCEEDED FOR THE FIRST TIME

Although heat waves were observed in many countries in Europe, which experienced the hottest summer last year, the air temperature in England exceeded 40 degrees for the first time.

The average temperature last year was 0.79 degrees Celsius during the period 1991-2020 and 1.83 degrees Celsius during the period 1961-1990.

INCREASED TWICE

The temperature in Europe has increased by 0.5 degrees every 10 years. This has been recorded as twice the global average since the 1980s.

16 THOUSAND PEOPLE DEAD

Weather events killed 16,000 people on the continent last year. 99.6 percent of these people died due to heat waves.

Carlo Buontempo, director of the Copernicus Climate Change Service, stated that they expect the increase in air temperatures to continue.

TO BE SEEN MORE OFTEN

“Unfortunately, this cannot be considered a one-time event or a climatic quirk.” Using the Buontempo expression, he emphasized that there is a pattern showing that extreme heat waves will be seen more frequently and will be more intense. (AA)
