United Arab Emirates and Qatar reopen their mutual embassies

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Qatar decided by mutual agreement to reopen their embassies today.

The statement on the matter was published on the website of the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs. In the statement, it was noted that as of today, the UAE has decided to reopen the Doha Embassy and Qatar has decided to reopen the Abu Dhabi Embassy and Dubai Consulate.

In the statement, it was indicated that said decision was made based on the agreement reached during the Summit of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) held in Al-Ula, Saudi Arabia in early 2021, and due to the importance attached by both state. to the strengthening of bilateral relations, it was said to have been launched to embody the will of the leaders of the two countries to realize their aspirations.

EXPLANATION OF Türkiye

The Turkish Foreign Ministry stated that they mutually welcome the reopening of the diplomatic missions between Qatar and the United Arab Emirates after a long hiatus.

The Ministry has issued a written statement on the mutual reopening of embassies between Qatar and the UAE. “We welcome the decision of the State of Qatar and the United Arab Emirates to reactivate their diplomatic representations after a long hiatus. We believe that this decision will significantly contribute to peace and stability in our region.

Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain and Egypt severed all diplomatic relations with Qatar on June 5, 2017, claiming that they “supported terrorist groups” and began to impose an economic embargo on this country.

Although Qatar denied all the accusations of the countries in question, this situation generated a crisis in the Gulf region. The Gulf crisis was resolved with the signing of the Ula Declaration at the 41st Summit of the Gulf Cooperation Council held in Al-Ula, Saudi Arabia on January 5, 2021.

Saudi Foreign Minister Faisal bin Ferhan Al Saud, in a press conference held after the summit, announced that the countries that imposed an embargo on Qatar had re-established diplomatic relations with Doha and that the embargo had been lifted. (AA)
