Chinese Foreign Minister Qin Gang received his US counterpart Antony Blinken in Beijing today, expressing the desire to establish a “stable, predictable and constructive relationship” with the United States. Reuters reports.
Qin also expressed concern about both countries’ inherent interests in the Taiwan conflict. According to the foreign minister, the situation around Taiwan is by far the biggest risk in Sino-US relations.
Rivals
Blinken – who is the first US foreign minister to visit the country in five years – shares Qin’s point of view, and also wants to work to stabilize mutual relations between the great powers. With this, Blinken also wants to nip any form of external rivalry in the bud, the representatives said.
In the conversation, Blinken clarified, among other things, that he “definitely did not want” to work on decoupling between Beijing and the United States and that there would be a follow-up meeting to discuss the topics further.
Biden
Yesterday US President Joe Biden said he was still looking forward to a possible new meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping, which could take place in the coming months. Especially since Chinese leaders may know little or nothing about the problems surrounding the Chinese spy balloon.
